We invite you to travel to Linksmakalnis with the CityTelling Festival!
On the way, you will learn about the project “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022”, the CityTelling Festival and what makes the town of Linksmakalnis special.
At the end of the tour at 14:00, you will see the contemporary circus performance “First Steps”. The performance is created by the children of Linksmakalnis, contemporary circus artists and 15 wheeled angels. After opening the CityTelling Festival with a solemn Procession of angels on Laisvės alėja in Kaunas, the human-sized rolling angels will return to their temporary home in Linksmakalnis, where they will live until autumn 2022.
The angels have already become a symbol of Linksmakalnis, Kaunas 2022 “Contemporary Neighborhood”. These guardian spirits offer hope in today’s challenging world. They help us to come to terms with the past and with ourselves, encourage openness to others, communion and love for our neighbours. The symbol of the angel invites us today to rethink the complex interrelationships in an increasingly confrontational society. These angels are a promise of unity and reconciliation. A reminder that we too can be true angels to one another.
The project involves: the children of Linksmakalnis, contemporary circus artists, director Džiugas Kunsmanas. The angels were created by sculptor Marit Benthe Norheim (Denmark).
