The interactive tour, richly illustrated with factual documentary material (original interwar photos, press clippings, etc) will recreate the night of July 17th, 1933 when all Kaunas youth gathered in Aleksotas airfield to wait for of the legendary transatlantic Lithuanian pilots Darius and Girėnas. Based on the authentic story of J. Olšauskaitė – Simaitienė, we will remind how Kaunas youth started fires and sang songs on a fateful night… all in wain. The little plane Lituanica perished in the German forest, after overcoming Atlantic skies. The gathered crowds learned about it only during the next day. The excursion would be a continuation of the themes explored in the “History Festival 2019” with the project “Lost Aleksotas”. This history will reveal one of the most dramatic, ground shaking memories of the interwar times Kaunas. The guide – historian Jonas Oškinis.
