During the opening of the Story-telling programmes “Where can I find you?”, professional storytellers Milda Varnauskaitė and Daiva Ivanauskaitė will tell stories that will reveal their relationship with storytelling and Kaunas.

A retelling of perhaps the most popular Lithuanian fairy tale, “Egle, the Serpent Queen”, which reveals the bond between mother Egle and young daughter Drebule. In a live performance, storyteller Milda Varnauskaitė combines Lithuanian mythology and folklore with an original interpretation of the tale. Milda uses words to create a rich world of images in which the secrets of the Serpent’s Palace are revealed.

This group will assist lecturer and professional storyteller Katrice Horsley in moderating the closing process, which is open to a wider range of participants. We invite representatives of various nations and cultures to come and take part in this experience, from which we will take away a new vision and future story for Kaunas.

Everyone is welcome to tell stories during the Open Storytelling Event. During this community (“social”) evening, a group of professional storytellers and storytelling enthusiasts will guide the audience through the experiences of Kaunas, Lithuania and Europe in an informal, cosy café setting, telling stories voluntarily and spontaneously.

The storytelling piece consists of the frame story of the English girl and her Indian wet-nurse, and 3 fairytales and folk stories from the collection. They are stories of fairies and witches; and of a bride who turned herself into a bridegroom to begin her quest. The stories are told in English, Gujarati, Urdu and Marathi – the languages of the Deccan region.

The aim of this interactive tour is to bring audiences from different cultures together and not only to hear the stories of foreigners living in Kaunas, but also to invite the participants to share their own. The tour starts at the former Museum of Exile and Resistance, 46 Vytauto Ave.

45 minute family storytelling show with 30 minutes pre-show activities in English for English and Non-English speakers.

Shona’s stories come from all over the world, she has collected them in Jam Jars and the funny thing is, when they were put in jars, they began to smell! Nice smells (normally) for example; dragon myth – mint, tiger tale – spicy, treasure story – lemon and monster story – unidentified stink. she’d love to share them with you! Come and sniff your favourite story. Using mime and puppetry these high energy participatory storytelling performances in English have been designed for both English speaking and non English Speaking children and families.

Two warriors are found on a battlefield and in this show we follow their story. How do they change? Why do they change? All will be revealed. Come join Katrice Horsley as she shares a new storytelling performance where courage is found in fear and forgiveness is found through vulnerability. The show weaves together stories from cultures around the world, highlighting the single thread of truth that exists in them all – the truth of the power of redemption.

“Across the nine lagoons…” The show is a collection of stories from all over the world that Milda heard while living “beyond the nine lagoons”… A crying frog, a fair Fish King and brave girls inspire children to pursue their dreams and explore the world. The stories teach kindness and empathy and how to live with others in one world.

Time suspended above the world and what it has to tell, this event brings together stories gleaned by the storyteller during a whole life spent travelling.

Tales, legends, myths, anecdotes, intimate memories fill pages of his travel diary day after day. He offers simply to share his taste and love for these stories. To take us away to an unlikely dream world, to an impossible reality. To cross the planet by means of stories. Journeys in place lead by associations, by moods, by the atmosphere.

The performance is a combination of dreams, reality, roses and confusion. It is a journey that is taken together with the teller and the audience. The path is traveled with bicycles, sailing boat, imagination, sausage and spells… Finland is a land of endless forests and thousands of lakes. The forest is sacred, but it’s the edge of the civilized area, an unknown and frightening place.

Just one courtyard in Kaunas, but hundreds of stories. If neighbours met for storytelling evenings in their backyards, the stories shared and listened to would bind them together with a strong emotional bond. Not only would they share walls, roofs and yards, but also stories. The Courtyard Stories event is for the residents of the participating courtyard and is open to Kaunas residents and visitors.

During the experimental storytelling residency, professional storyteller Shona Cowie will look at the city of Kaunas through the eyes of an outsider and conduct creative research with the Kaunas Red Cross. In collaboration with locals, including music artist Abdalla Chahine, the storyteller will uncover and share Kaunas Arrival Stories.

In an original fabric of fairy tales, whose threads come from the folklore library of Jonas Basanavičius, the chronicles of Jonas Malala and the works of the Persian philosopher Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, Daiva explores the silence between parents and children, asking why do parents remain silent? Who is the old man with the wire beard? How can we free parents and ourselves from the searing pain of silence? How to revive dead lips and get the old man’s fire?
