STORIES FOR LUNCH: a Highlight of the Old Town’s Architecture – VU in Kaunas

We kindly invite you to visit VU Kaunas Faculty! Vilnius university in Kaunas is cosily situated in the very heart of the Old Town centre – Muitinės street. Walking around the surroundings of the buildings constructed in the beginning of XVI–XVII centuries at Nemunas quay, you will find one of the most extraordinary architectural adornments of the city with the history inherent in the community of the Germans resided in Kaunas and in their activities. In the territory called the Quarter of Lutherans, where wealthy families of German merchants lived, dwells a history of a few centuries. During the visit, not only you will hear the legend of the Emperor Napoleon’ house but also the origin story of the smiling Sundial situated on the Faculty’s wall. As well, you will have a unique opportunity to take a look at the old cellars and hear the legends of Kaunas underground life. Having climbed into the tower of Saint Trinity Lutheran Church, you will have a view of unusual angle to the city panorama.
