STORIES FOR LUNCH: the Traces of the Statehood of Lithuania in K. Donelaičio Street
Start: Maironio g. 27.
Do you want to know why K. Donelaičio street is so important for the history of Lithuania’s statehood? If yes, then register to a tour during which you will find out in which building Antanas Smetona, the first president of the Republic of Lithuania, took his oath on April 6, 1919. You will also learn many other interesting and unexpected facts, like what exactly were cartridge cases used for making during the interwar period, and where in Kaunas the Minister of Foreign Affairs used to receive dimplomats… We will end the tour in Kaunas Chamber of Commerce (Kaunas County Public Library, K. Donelaičio str. 8), which is one of the modernist architectural gems of the interwar period in Kaunas. You will attend a public presentation on the e-directory “Kaunas: dates and facts” (https://datos.kvb.lt/) followed with an educational programme! The tour is led by Mindaugas Balkus, a staff member of Kaunas County Public Library.
